Trentino

Prowincja Autonomiczna Trydentu pokrywa się z historycznym i geograficznym regionem Trentino: niegdyś było to księstwo longobardzkie, następnie półniezależne państwo w czasach księcia-biskupa Trydentu podlegające Świętemu Cesarstwu Rzymskiemu Niemiec (XI–XIX wiek), a potem przez około sto lat (1818–1918) stanowiło włoskojęzyczną południową część Tyrolu w ramach Cesarstwa Austro-Węgierskiego.

Val Rendena (co w języku angielskim oznacza „Dolina Rendena”) jest jednym z najważniejszych ośrodków turystycznych w Trentino, z dominującym kurortem w Madonna di Campiglio.
Ponadto jest to jedyna dolina na świecie, w której znajdują się duże pasma górskie o pochodzeniu, z geologicznego punktu widzenia, całkowicie odmiennym.

W zachodniej części Val Rendena krajobraz dominują bowiem duże grupy górskie, takie jak Grupa Adamello wraz z lodowcem o tej samej nazwie oraz Grupa Presanella, obie złożone z diorytu tonalitowego (granitu).

Natomiast po lewej stronie krajobraz dominuje pasmo Dolomitów Brenta, złożone z dolomitu, czyli podwójnego węglanu wapnia i magnezu.
W Trentino występuje ogromna różnorodność populacji flory i fauny: Trentino oferuje tak niezwykle zróżnicowany krajobraz, że właśnie z tego powodu oraz ze względu na swoje naturalne piękno znaczna część regionu została wpisana na listę światowego dziedzictwa.


Główne ośrodki turystyczne mają charakter górski i są idealnie przystosowane zarówno do sezonu letniego, jak i zimowego. Madonna di Campiglio, górująca nad doliną niczym dziób statku, jest centrum turystycznym, w którym znajdują się najważniejsze letnie i zimowe kurorty: miejsce jedyne w swoim rodzaju na świecie, otoczone zarówno Dolomitami Brenta z ich wiecznym śniegiem, jak i granitami Adamello i Presanella.
